Tuomey was made possible through the generosity of a local philanthropist, Timothy J. Tuomey, who left provisions in his will that led to the acquisition of the Sumter Hospital in 1913. Were he alive today, he would no doubt be amazed at the growth and transformation that is now under way at the hospital that bears his name.Tuomey's active medical staff consists of more than 150 physicians, representing more than 25 medical specialties.
