Headed by its President, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, Batangas State University (BatStateU) is the "Philippines' National Engineering University" under Republic Act No. 11694. Established in 1903, it is a Level IV state university situated in the second largest economic region in the Philippines, CALABARZON, and aims to provide world-class education and training to young Filipinos.It is also the only state university in the country with engineering and information technology programs accredited by the US Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).It is rated three (3) Stars in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars University Rating and thus listed in the QS Top Universities. In 2020, through Presidential Proclamation No. 947, President Rodrigo R. Duterte designated the BatStateU Knowledge, Innovation, and Science Technology (KIST) Park as a Special Economic Zone. It is the first KIST Park registered by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
