The company was founded in early 2012 as "Optimized Athlete" by Olympic athlete and World Record Holder Sky Christopherson to support the US women's cycling team prior to the 2012 Olympic Games. The underfunded team had become America's hope for a cycling medal when the Lance Armstrong drug scandal, termed 'The Greatest Fraud in American Sports', resulted in unexpected withdrawals of top U.S. men's professional cyclists due to performance enhancing drug use.To attempt a new model of drug-free training prior to the 2012 Olympic Games, over a dozen thought leaders in fields of sport, medicine, and technology were assembled into a think-tank 'Dream Team'. The underdog women's team would go on to shock the world with a Silver Medal win in London.
