Holtålen municipality is located in Trøndelag county, approx. 32 km north of Røros. The municipality is known for its many cultural monuments, its mining history and for the special light phenomena in Hessdalen.Ålen is the municipal center where the municipal administration i.a. has offices in Helsetunet 7.Holtålen has a mixed business life, with the main emphasis on agriculture and service. The municipality had mining activities all the way back to the 17th century. The last mine was closed down in 1986. The municipality also has textile industry, metal industry and wood products factories.
