The Artists for Kids Culture (AKC) vision is to inspire children ages 5 - 17 years, to use the arts to challenge themselves, build belief in their own creativity and improve their wellbeing.AKC designs and creates opportunities for a new generation to emerge with creative confidence. AKC values the arts and cultural practices which enable children to share their experiences, thoughts, feelings and imaginations so they can connect better to themselves and each other. AKC programs focus on working with children from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn or be a part of the arts: art, music, dance, drama and other creative pursuits. The AKC team, together with contributing artists and volunteers, utilise their creativity to design programs that deliver on our vision.AKC administers a Grants Program and the artbus Program; both enabling children experiencing hardship opportunities to be active in artistic pursuits that are beyond their financial and social means. The Grants Program accepts applications throughout Australia and are for children aged between 5-17 years. Applicants need to demonstrate financial or social hardship, and that a child/children's access to these arts activities is limited. The AKC artsbus is a mobile arts space, enabling AKC to facilitate meaningful, thoughtful and therapeutic arts activities. Like a ‘mobile library', the artsbus travels to children, eliminating issues of access. The artsbus currently employs one part-time Program Manager, regularly employs lead-artists and has dedicated volunteers. artsbus is currently focusing on inner-city social housing and regional locations.
