Fools of Desire (F.O.D) is an exciting and vibrant licensed café located in the heart of Rangiora. F.O.D operates with a focus on sourcing local and seasonal produce and implements solar powered energy, providing both an organic and sustainable edge. In a likely first for Canterbury, we have installed solar panels on the building's roof, therefore making it partially solar powered. We also installed 100% LED lighting and have made provision to expand our solar panels as we can afford it. We challenge other local businesses to do the same! We are very passionate about supporting the Rangiora community, as well as the wider rural Canterbury farmers. We are also trying to break down the stigma that organic food is expensive by buying and using local, seasonal ingredients, sourcing from our garden when possible, and designing our menu around that local, seasonal produce. We provide local free range chicken, eggs, bread, milk, duck, venison, cheese, olive oil as well as a huge range of local vegetables, many organic and spray free, as well as local beers and wines! This range of quality produce is heart and soul of our menu! We are a local and family owned business and that gives us a huge advantage over other hospitality businesses in the area. We are lucky to not have to answer to a corporate model, a franchise system, and that means we can be different. We can buy local and fresh! At Fools of Desire we have also incorporated the first live beehive in a Canterbury café. Built inside the Café, behind glass, is a fully functioning beehive. We use honey throughout our menu, in place of sugar, and even use honey comb as part of our home made crumpets for breakfast. The bees are wonderful to watch, practical, and it is helping to revive the struggling bee population! Our focus on sustainability means aiming for zero waste, using recyclable and compostable materials as well as being the main drivers behind the "Plastic Straw Free Rangiora" movement~!

Welcoming over 100,000 visitors through the gates, the New Zealand Agricultural Show brings a touch of tradition to the city and celebrates all that is great about rural life. With a packed schedule of top livestock and equestrian events, live music, Endurocross, fun-filled family entertainment, an indulgent Food & Wine Village and so much more, you really will be spoilt for choice at this spectacular Show.The Show is hosted by the Canterbury A&P Association, a charity whose aim is to promote the importance of farming, produce and innovation to New Zealand as a whole. The Association's annual event is one of New Zealand's oldest A&P Shows and remains a traditional agricultural Show at heart. The decision was taken by the association in 2017 to rebrand the Show, to ensure its longevity and continued support to the communities at its core for many more years to come.
