The establishment of the TCIC is inspired by climate innovation centers (CICs) network launched by infoDev (Information for Development Program) of the World Bank. The CICs established to accelerate innovation in emerging technologies as essential to reduce the current and long-term impacts of climate change. So far World Bank in collaborations with other donors has established centers in Kenya, Ghana, Morocco, South Africa, Caribbean, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Vietnam.In the same spirit, TCIC is established as the national incubator to offer; business incubation, funding options, capacity building as well as access to the market for small, medium and other Tanzanian businesses which are involved in clean technologies. The center intend to support businesses that developing profitable ventures which use appropriate clean technologies which is solutions to climate change, mitigation and adaptation.The main focus of TCIC is support clean tech businesses, thus assure a Sustainable Green Economy in Tanzania. This business incubation program will generate employment and income in an ecosystem that is low carbon, resource-efficient and socially inclusive. The areas will include and not limited to; Water solutions, sustainable smart agriculture, energy efficiency, solar energy, resource use efficiency, waste management.
