ABOUT THE LOUISVILLE ORCHESTRA Founded in 1937 under the artistic leadership of Robert Whitney, The Louisville Orchestra performs over 125 concerts each season throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana.  The LO has had a long commitment to music education. Their Making MUSIC program, which celebrated its 75th year in 2014, earned the LO the 2001 Leonard Bernstein Award for Outstanding Educational Programming.  The Louisville Orchestra's rich history included a deep dedication to contemporary music, and started commissioning new works in 1948.  By 1950 the LO's First Edition Recordings were distributed globally, sharing the music of celebrated composers such as Aaron Copland, Dimitri Shostakovich and even Duke Ellington. In 2010, the acclaimed film, "Music Makes a City – A Louisville Orchestra Story," was released documenting the first thirty years of the orchestra's history. Under the galvanizing leadership of new Music Director Teddy Abrams, the creative resurgence of the Louisville Orchestra continues. Bringing engaging and exciting music to the entire Louisville metro is at the heart of the LO's mission. With an unwavering commitment to innovative  community engagement and a goal to reignite the world-renowned position the Louisville Orchestra held for decades as a leader of musical advancement, the LO is again commissioning and performing world premieres and expanding connections between musicians and music lovers.

Winner of The American Prize in Orchestral Performance, the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra has served both the cultural life of Valdosta and the regional academic mission of Valdosta State University since 1990. The high standard of performance of the orchestra enables it to attract guest soloists of national and international renown to the Valdosta community.The orchestra's membership is a unique blend of resident artist-faculty, students studying professional music disciplines, talented community performers, and carefully selected professionals from a five-state region. Supported by an Advisory Board of Directors, the Valdosta Symphony Guild, Valdosta State University, corporate sponsors, and hundreds of individual patrons, the orchestra has become an important part of the cultural life of the entire region.The VSO is proud to host a number of annual events in addition to the concert series to support the promotion of the musical arts in the region:The South Georgia String Project provides exploratory experience of string instruments to children in Magnet Strings classes. Many children continue to perform and take lessons.Youth Concert Series are special performances of the orchestra programmed for school children and their teachers. Over 50,000 children have heard the VSO through this series of concerts.Tunes for Tots introduces the instruments of the orchestra to younger children.Concerto Competition provides outstanding university performers at VSU with audition/competition experience and the opportunity to perform as soloists at a VSO Youth Concert.Musician Enrichment Grants of up to $1,000 allow individual students to apply for support to aid their creative endeavors over the course of the year.

Valdosta Symphony Orchestra

The Lexington Philharmonic, founded in 1961, presents over 200 concerts and educational programs annually.  The mission of the Lexington Philharmonic is to foster excellence and innovation in the performance and presentation of great music; to enrich the lives of our diverse citizenry; to educate current and future audiences and to bring distinction to our community through the orchestra's presence and standing.Each season, LexPhil features eight concerts of classical music and world-renowned guest artists each year. Inside the Score, a series of free pre-concert lectures, gives patrons a more in-depth look and preview of the evening's performance.
