The reefs of Semporna face severe endangerment due to prolonged and harmful fishing practices spanning several decades. Moreover, pollution, coastal development, and climate change pose additional threats. The primary objective of Semporna Islands Project, a registered nonprofit in Malaysia, is to safeguard the exceptional natural characteristics and diverse life within this region while fostering sustainable resource use, economic growth, and preservation of traditional culture.
