Loss of limb is a problem that affects over nearly two million people in the U.S. alone. While many have chosen to receive prosthetic limbs, many others feel that the drawbacks of current prosthetics – discomfort, restricted mobility, risk of complications, cost – are not worth the benefits. The underlying cause of these flaws lies in the methodology behind the current generation of prosthesis – the idea that the standard model for prosthesis needs only to be upgraded and adjusted with new technological advancements, and that the human body should be adapted to fit this technology. Our company aims to flip this way of thinking – adapting our system to better work with the human body by replicating the functionality of a biologic limb by combining synthetic muscles, skin, and nerves, and connecting them directly to the recipient’s nervous system – no computers, no batteries.
