The original Makeshift Cinema was an idea that came out of a lack of free space to showcase films. It was held in a garden in South East London, and presented the films of four students. Set up with a small budget (reserved mainly for beer and sausages) almost all of the materials were free and found or borrowed.With the Makeshift Cinema Short Film Festival we aim to expand this original idea into something that can bring together filmmakers across London through an accessible and open celebration of their work. Our aim is to provide this platform whilst staying true to the original ‘Makeshift' name. The Makeshift Cinema aims to showcase filmmaking talent in an accessible, innovative way. The Festival is intended to facilitate the coming together a community of filmmakers who want to bring their work to a wider audience.The festival has a strong focus on community, working with local business to provide amenities, allowing the project to feed directly back in to the community. This is a non-profit set up and everyone involved in the organisation volunteers his or her time freely.The Makeshift Cinema was created by Aperio Films
