Our aim is to develop a digital community by and for musicians – a web 2.0 platform fostering creative work with sheet music.Philomelos enables musicians to trade or share, edit and arrange pieces of music that are either free of known copyright around the world or under a Creative Commons licence most comfortably. We want to both encourage creative exchange and draw attention to all the magnificent works of occidental music history, as well as to unknown treasures of our time.Downloads are available in PDF as well as MusicXML. MusicXML files can be read and adapted to your needs by means of a wide range of music notation applications. The scores are qualitatively and aesthetically pleasing as they are engraved by LilyPond (http://lilypond.org/) — a free open source program devoted to bringing the beauty of traditionally engraved music to computer printouts.In future, you will even be able to easily modify your scores online, that is change keys, time, clefs and octave positions with just a few mouse clicks. For a better overview, it will be possible to add or deselect single voices or parts of complex orchestral works and render basic arrangements.
