A Brief History of Dargan Whitington and MaddoxDargan, Whitington & Maddox, Inc. was established in 1892 in Atlanta as the Cliff C. Hatcher Insurance Agency. The name was changed to Hatcher and Dunlap in 1895. The company represented and served as mortgage correspondent for the Travelers Insurance Company, The Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, United States Casualty Company, American Surety Company and other insurance carriers. The company was incorporated March 26, 1925 as Dargan, Venerable & Whitington, Inc. The name was changed to Dargan, Whitington and Conner, Inc. on January 1, 1932. The company was a charter member of the Atlanta Mortgage Bankers Association and served as mortgage correspondent for the Travelers Insurance Company for more than 75 years. Walter Whitington and Frank L. Conner were founding members of the Atlanta Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers in Atlanta in 1936. Cone Maddox, Sr. served for many years as Chairman of the Commercial Appraisal Committee of the Atlanta Board of Realtors. Dargan, Whitington & Conner, Inc., was purchased by Cone M. Maddox, III in 1966, and the name was changed to Dargan, Whitington & Maddox, Inc. in May of 1987. The company currently offers Real Estate Appraisals, Consulting, Leasing, Property Management and Troubled Properties Management.The company provides Commercial and Residential appraisals and a variety of appraisal-related services including market, investment and use-value estimates, highest and best use studies, marketability and feasibility studies, and site location services. The firm has extensive professional expertise and experience in providing courtroom testimony in both state and federal courts. The primary area of expertise has been in the Southeastern United States; however, geographical locations have included Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas and others.
