Who We Are:The SME Business School is an enterprise development institute whose aim is to contribute to increased capacity of and access to finance by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Africa through capacity development of SMEs and organizations affiliated to SMEs such as financial institutions, private companies and development organizations that work closely with the sector. What We Do:The SME Business School develops and delivers innovative, relevant and market-driven capacity development programmes targeting SMEs, Corporate organizations working with SMEs within their value chains and Financial Institutions that lend to SMEs.How We Do It:The development of our programmes starts with seeking to understand the needs of our target clients after which we develop programmes that aim at meeting those needs. Market research to gather new insights and monitoring and evaluation of our existing programmes are therefore a continuing part of our work in ensuring that we stay ahead of new developments in order to make our courses as relevant and up to date as possible. Why We Do It:The Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector is widely considered globally as not only important but as the bedrock and engine of economic growth in many economies of the world. Despite their importance, SMEs still face a myriad of challenges with two of the key barriers being capacity and capital. It is therefore in response to these two challenges that The SME Business School was established with the aim of addressing them through relevant capacity development programmes. Our Purpose is to transform SMEs in Africa into globally competitive enterprises through Increased Capacity and Access to Capital while contributing to the growth of all stakeholders that directly or indirectly interact with SMEs e.g. financial institutions and corporate organizations.
