The Gallery began with a "what if" statement spurring on some imagination about what could be realized. What if a 2500 square foot commercial space could be a gallery? As a popup gallery, it closed December 2018. Thankfully, however, a group of artists initiated a brick and mortar store in Malden - now run by the artists. The landlord allowed free use of the space for over one year.77 sellers, including artists and artisans, sold hand crafted goods; fine artists displayed their work in a series of exhibitions; and performers held concerts sponsored by local businesses and the cultural council.When the physical space closed at the end of 2018, a new and emergent offshoot of this experience came to be - a physical brick and mortar shop on the main street of Malden took root and is now managed by committed artists who run, invest in, and are growing this endeavor.The Gallery@57, now an online commerce venture out of necessity and logical progression exists as the physical shop awaits the end of this pandemic. galleryat57.com
