This is all we do. Founded by Dr. Hersh in 1995, CLEI is dedicated to clinical care and research in LASIK and corneal surgery. Dr. Hersh was the lead author of the clinical trial that led to first FDA approval of the excimer laser for vision correction surgery in 1995. He has some of the longest and most extensive experience in LASIK in the U.S. Dr. Greenstein, trained under Dr. Hersh, is an expert in all forms of cornea and refractive surgery. Dr. Chu specializes in corneal disease and surgery and is nationally recognized for his expertise in inflammatory and immunologic conditions. Dr. Gelles is nationally recognized for his expertise in specialty contact lenses for visual rehabilitation in corneal disease and therapeutic treatment of ocular surface disease. The CLEI Center of Keratoconus was founded in 2002 by Dr. Hersh as a subspecialty center devoted to all aspects of keratoconus care. The Center provides state-of-the art keratoconus diagnosis, therapeutic care, subspecialty contact lens care, and the complete range of surgical treatments. In addition to clinical care, Drs. Hersh, Greenstein, and Gelles are at the forefront of research and innovation in keratoconus. Dr. Hersh and Greenstein wrote seminal papers on corneal crosslinking in the U.S. and have written multiple book chapters on the subject. Dr. Hersh was the medical monitor and lead author of the studies leading to FDA approval of corneal crosslinking.
