Riva Acciaio is one of the major Italian steel companies, its activities being grouped together in Gruppo Riva, founded in 1954 by the brothers Emilio and Adriano Riva. Subsidiary of Riva Forni Elettrici, the holding company of the group, nowadays it has about a thousand employees working in 5 plants located in Caronno Pertusella, Lesegno, Sellero, Malegno and Cerveno, producing both for the Italian and the European markets. The company is specialised in the production of long products and high quality steels, a domain in which it has established strong leadership with over 60 years of experience, and was the first in Italy to introduce curved-type continuous casting in its plants. Its advanced R&D laboratory in the plant in Lesegno is equipped with many high-tech devices, such as the “Gleeble 3800” thermal-mechanical simulator, collaborating with the University of Pisa and the Polytechnics of Turin and Milan and allowing the company to continue increasing its effort in continuous research and improvement. Riva Acciaio plants are certified according to ISO 9001 standards. In addition to this, the plant in Malegno and the cold processing department of the plant in Cerveno are certified as compliant to the IATF 16949 standard for the automotive market. The analysis of management systems, through careful monitoring, results in a development of processes allowing stakeholders to always be at the core of company policies. In order to achieve constant improvement in performance, Riva Acciaio plants are certified as compliant to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, whose compliance is continuously assessed by third-party independent audits. Finally, plants in Lesegno, Caronno and Cerveno have implemented the “Best Available Techniques” (BAT), thus obtaining the necessary authorisations to operate according to the Environmental Integrated Authorization (AIA) and to the Environmental Single Authorization (AUA) for the plant in Malegno.
