Why found a support center for gastroenterology? When I opted to open the Nucleus of Support to Gastroenterology - NAGASTRO - I thought about attending the various facets of gastroenterology. Something that did not yet exist in the area, because I felt that we still have room for innovation, information and learning. A nucleus that has a scope for the gastroenterologist in its day to day, take an approach for patients and for the lay public, but all this thinking "outside the house" since much has already been done by universities, pharmaceutical industries and societies. I thought, discussed with colleagues, listened to industry opinions, studied existing projects, and tried to measure all the pros and cons of this new endeavor in my life. I analyzed under the various angles of Gastroenterology, because I present a large baggage in the area. I was the side of the Pharmaceutical Industry, I was medical manager of industries of European origin and of American origin. I have lived on the board of directors of Societies and recently I was elected president of one of them. I have achieved almost all levels of university academic life in Gastroenterology, I am Professor, Researcher and Advisor at the postgraduate level (Master and Doctorate) at the University of São Paulo. I also work as a gastroenterologist working in a private practice as well as in the public sector. And then, why take on this new endeavor? Given this data and with this expanded view of Gastroenterology in the pharmaceutical, academic, care and research industry, I am sure that NAGASTRO will bring many benefits to academic and medical gastroenterologists, as well as teaching Gastroenterology to other specialties and public, including our patients.
