Medicentre Chemists was started in 1983 as a partnership with the first branch opening in October 1983 in Chillingham Road, Heaton, Newcastle. Following the success of this pharmacy a second was opened in 1985 in St Georges Terrace, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne and two months later a third branch opened in Grainger Street, City Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne.In 1988 Medicentre Chemists acquired Bhojani Chemists, a Newcastle based pharmacy group consisting of two pharmacies in the West End of Newcastle making the number of Medicentre branches of Medicentre.Medicentre now operated across the City of Newcastle employing over 125 staff.Medicentre furthered its pharmacies to incorporate additional facilities such as newsagents, post offices within the store. Medicentre has since sold all of its pharmacies to various multiples such as Boots and Whitworths and now operates a single branch of Medicentre in St. Georges Terrace, Jesmond, Newcastle.
