Garvan graduated from the University of Sydney with a Masters in Architecture where he won the Sir John Sulman Award for the Most Outstanding Academic Record and was placed on the Dean's List of Academic Achievement five years running. Since graduating, he has worked in London with Philippe Starck and in Sydney with leading architects Hannah Tribe and Daniel Boddam, before establishing his own practice – James Garvan Architecture.
