Hearts Alive Village is a 501c3 nonprofit located in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was founded in 2013 because of an intense need to help save dogs and cats that were losing their lives in an overcrowded shelter system, as well as to assist pet owners who have no other place to turn. With the help of a dedicated team, we fight every day to animal shelter intake by offering several services, such as: a pet food bank, rehoming services for pet owners who have passed away or have become unable to care for their pets; educational resources; and medical services through our low-cost veterinarian clinic, which serves over 1,000 families a month.HAV has taken a comprehensive approach to pet homelessness. We have a Human Support Services Department which helps citizens as the first contact for people looking for resources, it helps those who have animals at risk of suffering, being surrendered, or euthanized. We receive over 500 calls a month. HAV also has a veterinary forensics team who investigate animal cruelty and is the only provider for all four jurisdictions in Southern Nevada. This is a critical program, and we have a tremendous impact in turning charges into convictions and creating a climate for more punitive plea deals.HAV owns and operates a veterinary clinic. It has been serving struggling pet parents to access veterinary care with a combination of affordable services and grants to subsidize costs. On site are also kennels where dogs and cats are rehabilitated both medically and physically. Our efforts are primarily focused on dogs and cats that are at risk at our local shelter, but we also have a horse and goat rescue center, in which adoptions made possible to loving homes. At any given time, HAV will have over 400 dogs and cats, horses, and goats in our care and on treatment plans.
