GUIDEPOST r provides services, consulting and support around issues of homelessness and Recuperative Care.About Recuperative CareWhen a doctor or other health care provider tells a patient to "go home, rest, take your medicine, and follow-up with me in a week," most folks retreat to their bed or couch to recover. Often a family member or friend helps them with activities of daily living, like food preparation, laundry, going to the pharmacy. Imagine being given those instructions and having to say, "But, doc, I don't have a home." What happens then? Recuperative Care (formerly known as Medical Respite Boulder [MRB] of BOHO), a program of the new mission-driven social enterprise called GUIDEPOST r (http://GUIDEPOSTr.org), wants to fill the gap of no place for persons experiencing homelessness to recuperate from illness or injury. Persons with an acutely resolvable health condition will soon be able to be referred by medical providers to shelter, health and social support for up to two weeks. National data shows that having a recuperative care option leads to better health outcomes for the person AND significantly lower health care costs for the system (available upon request).
