The Donald Beasley Institute is a national, independent, non-profit organisation based in Dunedin, New Zealand. Established in 1984, the Institute is recognised nationally and internationally as a leader in the field of learning disability (intellectual disability) research. Governed by a Trust Board, the Institute's activities are carried out by an experienced research team. We aim to advance the health and wellbeing of people with intellectual disability (learning disability) in New Zealand through applied research, evaluation and education. We also offer evaluation, consultancy, mentoring and postgraduate supervision.The Institute seeks external research grants to conduct its work and has well-developed relationships with a range of tertiary institutions in New Zealand and internationally. The Institute participates in and conducts various projects for service providers, governmental organisations and ministries, and independently. These valuable links promote multidisciplinary research and education, and facilitate dissemination of the Institute's values and research.
