What does the future for transportation look like in Denmark? Will electric cars become even more popular? How do people decide?And what does it mean for the power grid?It is an exciting time for the transport sector, and we anticipate very big changes in the very near future. The popularity of electric cars is skyrocketing. Commuting patterns are changing. There are other huge game-changers on the horizon, such as autonomous (self-driving) vehicles. Yet, when it comes to the climate environment, the transport sector is traditionally the most challenging sector to power with renewable energy. That may be changing in the near future. COMETS is designed to better understand large scale trends in transport, understand how people choose between different modes of transport, and use this to think about the future challenges and opportunities for transport in Denmark. We do this by examining the trends and then using that information to combine a state-of-the-art transportation model with a state-of-the-art energy model for Denmark. With this, we endeavor to provide advice how best to create new infrastructure and incentives so that our future transportation sector is powered by sustainable energy.
