The name CHINO comes from the Spanish word that referring to a person of Asian decent, and as the name suggests, CHINO is a modern Mexican style restaurant inspired by Asian ingredients and cuisine. Growing up in Los Angeles, Executive Chef and Owner Erik Idos was surrounded by some of the best Mexican street food. His love for Japanese ingredients and cooking techniques developed while working at Nobu in California, New York and Hong Kong for 8 years. Idos has combined his past and his present culinary passions to create CHINO – a family style, neighborhood restaurant that is focused on producing fresh and creative food and drinks.Utilizing Japanese cooking techniques and sourcing ingredients from Hong Kong, Japan and Mexico, CHINO brings the distinct flavors of each culture together to provide a unique menu with one of kind dishes, such as Crispy Fish Tacos with Salsa Fresca, Scallop and Uni Tostada, and Aji Amarillo Clams with Crispy Shallots. CHINO also offers a specially curated selection of tequila and mezcal, in addition to wine and beer on draught.Idos worked with artist Aaron de la Cruz to create an original mural on the walls of CHINO, and California based illustrator Stephanie Jung on the branding and design of CHINO. CHINO is located at 1B- 1C New Praya in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong. Open from 6:00 p.m. to Midnight, Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays). CHINO does not accept reservations; walk-ins only.Due to the success of CHINO Hong Kong, they opened a second location in Manila in 2018.
