C.A.I.R.D.E. is an acronym for Communities in Armagh Investing in Regeneration, Diversity and Enterprise. We are an Irish language, community based, social enterprise, established in 2009. Our employees and volunteers work extremely hard to promote the Irish language and to ameliorate conditions related to social and economic marginalisation in Armagh City through a combination of employment creation, training and learning opportunities, consultancy and advocacy services, inter-cultural engagement and recreational pursuits for families raising their children through Irish. The company was formed following extensive consultation with the local community in Armagh City. Following participation on NMEA's Social Entrepreneurship Programme and University of Ulster's Advanced Diploma in Social Enterprise, a number of experienced community activists, cultural representatives and trade union officials formed a social enterprise that would go on to generate revenue for our range of community development programmes, provide genuine employment opportunities and offer a wide range of services that make a positive impact on the local populace. The company generates revenue from a diverse range of business activities. We own a bespoke gifts and crafts shop in the heart of Armagh City Centre, a profitable product and garment customisation service, a professional social enterprise consultancy and a minority language service agency. We also provide very popular weekly adult evening classes, weekend courses and residential trips. CAIRDE has recently diversified with some success into event coordination for non-governmental agencies. The services provided by our project are available to the entire community including members of newer migrant communities who form an integral part of the social fabric of life in Armagh. As a democratically organised, non-profit taking social enterprise, all profits generated via our trading and commercial activities are re-invested
